    Wedneday, April 24, 2013: Stamford Fire Fighter and Local 786 Member, Bill O'Connell (Group 2, Rescue 1) recieved the 2013 Ray Downey Courage and Valor Award this morning at the Fire Department Instructor's Conference (FDIC) in Indianapolis, Indiana. Robert F. Biolchini, chief executive officer of PennWell Corporation, parent company of Fire Engineering/FDIC, made the presentation.

    May 17, 2010 - Four Stamford Fire Fighters were recently hired as extras for the film "We Need To Talk About Kevin". The production of the movie is currently underway in Stamford and featured Academy Award Winning Actress Tilda Swinton and Academy Award Nominee Actor John C. Reilly

    Gianna Grace (better known as GiGi) is a sweet, sassy and full of life 5 year old little girl who was diagnosed with an aggressive grade 4 medulloblastoma (large cancerous brain tumor) just over a week ago (sept 13 2024). GiGi and her family began this battle at Children’s hospital in Detroit under the most amazing neurosurgical team.

    October is Breast Cancer Awareness month. Cancer is the leading cause of death for firefighters. Firefighters have an increased risk of all cancers, including breast cancer. One study from San Francisco showed that the diagnosis of breast cancer in female firefighters was six times higher than the national average.

Firefighter/EMT died September 7, 2024, in the line of duty after a long courageous battle with occupational cancer. Firefighter King served the Lake Ozark Fire Protection District for 17 years.

    (2024-08-30) Nine delegates from Local 1784 recently attended the IAFF Convention in Boston.  There were over 4,000 delegates, alternates, and guests from IAFF Locals from across the United States and Canada conducting the business of the IAFF. The IAFF Convention is held every other year and is designed for members to chart the course of the IAFF for the next two years.
